Portable Link Viewer

Portable Link Viewer is a very small and easy-to-use program whose purpose is to provide information on LNK-formatted files. It has a short feature-set that make the app accessible to all user groups.

Portability benefits

As the name says, the tool is portable, so no installation is necessary. It is suffice to drop the files in any part of the HDD and click the executable to access Portable Link Viewer.
Alternatively, you can move it to a mass storage device to run it on any computer with minimum effort and no previous installers.
Worth mentioning is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not receive new entries, so the app leaves the disk clean after its removal.

Clear-cut interface

The GUI consists of a basic window with a minimalistic layout, where all you can do is open a LNK file using either the file browser or drag-and-drop method.

View and copy data

File properties include the shortcut file name, style, hotkey and icon index, along with additional information from the network share, such as share name, full path, volume types, file size, and date of creation, modification and last access. This data can be copied to the Clipboard by making a text selection first. Unfortunately, Portable Link Viewer does not implement a feature for exporting it to file or printing it.

Performance and conclusion

The tool is very responsive to commands and uses a low amount of CPU and RAM, so it does not concern the computer's overall performance. It is stable, multilingual and simple to use. When it comes to inspecting LNK information, Portable Link Viewer gets the job done.
