Once completed, the coder can select each possible combination to pick the one that is valid. This is critical as not all combinations will be valid per coding rules. By quickly calculating many possible Principal Diagnosis combinations and displaying the potential DRGs a coder can make an informed decision. It is far too common that the wrong principal diagnosis is selected in a case simply because the proper sequencing of diagnosis codes is a time consuming process.
