PWL Tools Description
PWL Tools is a simple-to-use software application capable of retrieving lost or forgotten passwords to PWL files, such as dial-up and network passwords.
After a brief installation procedure, you are greeted by a standard window with a well-organized layout, representing PWL Tools' interface.
Windows password files can be loaded into the working environment by using either the file browser or "drag and drop" method.
There are three different methods available for password recovery - by using brute force, smart force, or dictionary-based. So, you can enter a set of character strings to be used by PWL Tools, as well as specify the range of the password length. Alternatively, you may select a plain text document from the hard drive to be applied as a dictionary file.
In addition, PWL Tools lets you process Save searching files (SAV format), save the cached passwords to a plain text document, clear the custom strings, as well as use network tools (e.g. sniffer, DNS, filter scan), to name but a few.
The program is low-demanding when it comes to the CPU and system memory, so it shouldn't burden the computer's overall performance. No error dialogs have been shown throughout our testing and the app did not hang or crash. On the downside, PWL Tools has not been been updated for a very long time, hence it is not supported by newer Windows editions.
