QuikConvert Description
QuikConvert is a tiny and portable software application that you can use to convert multimedia files between various formats. It supports FLV, AVI, MP3, MP4, MKV and VOB for the output. Just basic customization settings are included in this app, so it can be handled even by users with little or no experience in audio and video conversion utilities.
Portability advantages
As there is no setup pack involved, you can drop the program files in any part of the hard disk and immediately launch the executable file. Another possibility is to save QuikConvert to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC effortlessly and without previous installers.
It should not be read-only, though, since the app creates extra files in the same directory as itself. However, the Windows registry and Start menu do not get updated with new entries.
Straightforward interface and options
The GUI is user-friendly, represented by a classical window with a neatly organized structure. QuikConvert does not put emphasis on looks, however. Files can be pointed out for conversion using the file browser only, since the drag-and-drop method is not supported. Worth mentioning is that batch processing is not featured, so you are restricted to working with only one file at a time.
Immediately convert multimedia files
Once the output directory and format are established, you can adjust the conversion quality and, optionally ask QuikConvert to generate a log file where you can examine any errors. Apart from the fact that you can select the path to the ffmpeg tool (executable file) and check for updates, there are no other notable options available.
Evaluation and conclusion
We failed in our attempt to update the app using its built-in option, and several errors popped up in this regard. Files are converted quickly and error-free, and the new ones have a pretty decent quality. CPU and RAM consumption remained low, and the encoding jobs were executed fast. Considering that it is free and portable, users can give QuikConvert a shot.
