Registry Defragmenter Description
Registry Defragmenter is a lightweight and portable piece of software that, as the name implies, lets you defrag the Windows registry, in an attempt to restore some of its stability. It does not contain complex options or configuration parameters, so it can be handled by anyone with ease.
Portability perks
Since there is no installation involved, you can drop the executable file in any part of the hard disk and just click it to run.
There is also the possibility to save Registry Defragmenter to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.
An important aspect worth taking into account is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk, leaving it clean after removal.
Clear-cut interface and options
The GUI is represented by a single window with a plain and simple layout, where you can start the scanning procedure with the click of a button. During this time you can view the cluster map with organized, fragments and free blocks, along with the currently scanned hive.
Results show the total registry size, processed hives and analysis time. In order to apply the new modifications and reduce the registry's dimension, you are required to restart the PC. There are no other notable options available here.
Evaluation and conclusion
Scanning jobs are performed rapidly, while Registry Defragmenter remains light on system resources. It did not cause the operating system to hang, crash or display error notifications in our testing. Although it does not contain rich features, Registry Defragmenter gets the job done and can be used by anyone with ease.
