ShadyTXT Description
Text editors provide a lot more functionality than just keeping your ideas in order. These can also serve as a basic means of programming, and Windows contains a couple of tools to use for various purposes. If you’re looking for alternatives, however, these come in a variety of forms, and a suitable example here is ShadyTXT.
Rather poor file support
You don’t get to spend a lot of time in the setup process. However, the application does rely on .NET Framework to function, so you might want to check whether or not it’s already on your computer. Accommodation doesn’t keep you busy for a long time either, thanks to a clean interface, bundling features in a minimalistic design.
To start off, you find file support rather disappointing, with the possibility to load TXT, LOG, NFO, and DIZ files, but with the only option to save being TXT. Edit operations can be done for a single document at a time, but you do have the possibility to open up multiple instances of the application.
Leaves much to be desired
Editing operations don’t offer too much comfort either. The default writing style has you placing white characters on a black background, but both of these can be changed. Sadly, modifying the color for text doesn’t apply to a selection, but the entire document, which makes highlighting close to impossible.
Font characteristics can be changed through a default panel, but, just like for color, changes apply to the entire document. However, web links to get highlighted differently and can even be launched through your default web browser.
To end with
Taking everything into consideration, we can state that ShadyTXT isn’t really a modern choice when it comes to text editors. Little flexibility is provided by the set of features, offering a style which gets applied to the entire document. File support leaves much to be desired, and you’re easily tempted to look for alternatives.
