SkypeTools is a very small and straightforward application that enables you to use your favorite tunes as ringtones for your contacts on the popular messaging program.

Outdated and rudimentary interface

It goes without saying that you need to have a Skype account in order to use the application. After a speedy installation, the application connects to Skype in order to update the contact list, an action that can take a few minutes, depending on the size of your address book.
The UI is very basic and minimalistic, as the interface consists of a navigation dashboard that allows you to access the main menu, ringtones, settings and the home window. You can preview the functions and take the desired actions from the right panel.

It should allow you to create your own ringtone

The application enables you to select an audio file, add it as a ringtone and then assign it to any of your contacts. You should know that it only supports 3 types of audio files, namely WMA, MP3 and WAV. It would be useful if the application could support more file formats, especially those compatible with mobile devices.
In addition, it would be nice if the program allowed you to create your own ringtone by cutting your favorite part from a tune for instance. On the other hand, you should know that that utility enables you to play the audio file before assigning it, a feature that can be useful in situations when you have a lot of music stored on your computer.
On a side note, you should keep in mind that the app does apply any ringtones without your permission.

All in all, SkypeTools does a good job at helping you assign as many ringtones as you want even one for each contact on Skype.
It is necessary to mention that the application is no longer supported by the manufacturer and hence, the likelihood it receives any updates or improvements are slim.
