Smart WhoIs Description

Just like houses are all fitted with a custom address to make identification easy inside a city, so is every website and computer online identified by the corresponding IP address. Network administration relies on knowing all sources, with a variety of tools like Smart WhoIs which can provide details on a specific source.

Scan by IP or domain

The application is good to go from the moment download is done, because to setup is required to make it work. As such, it’s easy to carry around with other network tools to use on other computers directly from a USB flash drive. Data is only read, and no changes are made to system registry entries, thus not affecting functionality.
With the main window up you only need to provide target details to get started. Most of the space si the preview area where all gathered info is shown. On the bright side, you’re able to identify a source either by the domain or IP address. Scanning and retrieval of results mostly depends on your Internet connection type.

Save data to file

Results are delivered in plain text format, with the possibility to even edit text. This helps add notes and important tags to specific details, after which you can save all details to file. Note that saving requires you to input the entire path, name, and extension of the output file, and there’s no built-in browse dialog to help you out.
Although the results area stretches to fit all content, it’s automatically discarded when performing a new search, so it’s best to save every attempt if data is of interest. Moreover, the application can only be used with domains like .aero, .arpa, .biz, .com, .coop, .edu, .info, .int, .museum, .net, and .org.

To sum it up

All things considered, Smart WhoIs manages to live up to expectations, coming in a pretty flexible environment, and with a straightforward approach on network source identification. You can either look up info based on domains and IP addresses, and save all gathered results to file.
