SoftPerfect File Recovery

SoftPerfect File Recovery is a lightweight and portable app that can help you retrieve files which have been lost or deleted from your computer.
Since installation is not necessary, you can store SoftPerfect File Recovery on an external device (like a USB flash drive), save it to any computer and directly run its executable file.
Furthermore, there are no new entries created in the Windows Registry and no leftover files can be found on the hard drive after program removal.
The interface of the app is based on a standard window where you can get started by selecting the local partition you want to browse for deleted data. You can either make the tool look for all available files, or only specific ones, by inputting the name and/or extension.
Once the scanning procedure is completed, you can check out the name, location, size, attributes and date for each item. Simply select the ones you want to restore, specify the output directory and let the program handle the rest.
SoftPerfect File Recovery supports multiple languages for the UI, has a good response time and finishes a scanning task in reasonable time, depending on the size of the selected volume. It manages to recover some items with no problems. However, it was unable to locate some files that we had permanently deleted from the computer, right before starting the app.
On top of that, the program is not equipped with tools for selecting and deselecting all items, and you cannot use a search function for discovered results. SoftPerfect File Recovery has not been updated for a long time.
