Split Join and Encrypt

Split Join and Encrypt is an application that comes packed with options for splitting, joining, encrypting and decrypting files with a password, as well as an MD5 hash calculator.
It features approachable customization properties that can be configured with ease, even by users with minimal experience in such file management tools.

Prerequisites and interface

The app's not packed in a setup kit. It consists of a single .exe file that can be saved anywhere on the disk or copied to a removable storage unit, and seamlessly launched on any PC. It doesn't add new entries to the system registry or create files on the disk without letting you know about it. However, it needs .NET Framework to work properly.
When it comes to the interface, Split Join and Encrypt opts for standard window with a clean and intuitive structure, where you can choose between joining, splitting, encrypting and decrypting files, and calculating their MD5 checksums.

Trim files by size and put them back together

Large files can be divided into smaller parts to be able to upload online or transfer to other computers by placing them on pen drives with a limited storage capacity. You can split them by size (in megabytes or kilobytes) using the normal mode (creates files with .001, .002.. extensions) or the NTK encryption method (.part01.ntk, .part02.ntk...) if you plan on applying a password necessary for decryption.
In addition, you can select a preferred output directory and instruct the utility to automatically replace any existing files, as well as to auto-delete the source files on task completion.

Encrypt and decrypt files, calculate MD5 hashes

The joining, encryption and decryption operations share the same auto deletion and replacement options as the splitter, and they also have a field for entering the correct password (if any). Worth mentioning for the merger is that all you have to do is indicate the first part of the file, after making sure that all remaining pieces exist in the same location.
The MD5 hash calculator of Split Join and Encrypt gives you the possibility to verify the MD5 signature of one or two files at the same time. The alphanumerical values are auto-copied to the Clipboard afterward. However, it's not designed for comparison purposes, to let you know whether or not the two files match.

Evaluation and conclusion

Tasks were swiftly carried out in our tests in all cases. No error dialogs popped up and system resources consumption remained minimal. However, Split Join and Encrypt automatically exited without confirmation after a certain amount of time passed since its launch. Other than that, it offers a simple and straightforward solution for encrypting, decrypting, splitting, merging and calculating the MD5 hashes of files.
