SteelSoft Free OCR

SteelSoft Free OCR is a lightweight, yet useful application that enables you to extract text from images in a quick and easy manner. The program is a frontend for a cloud service that uses a Tesseract OCR engine.

Support for a multitude of languages

SteelSoft Free OCR can recognize texts written in pictures in various languages and alphabets, including Chinese, Japanese or Vietnamese characters. The program requires you to add the desired picture, select the language, then upload the file to the cloud, for OCR analysis.
The process is fast and takes a few seconds, returning the results in a Web page that opens in your default browser. The accuracy of the conversion depends on the font used in the pictures, the size, clarity of the font, as well as the quality of the picture. Generally, in proper conditions, the accuracy of the recognition is rather high and the results are reliable.

View the results in your browser

SteelSoft Free OCR can save the results of each conversion on the cloud which stores the service itself. You can view the text in your browser, straight from the server, in an editable area, which allows you to select and copy the text to your clipboard. The program does not feature a different method for exporting the results to your computer.
The supported image formats include three common types, namely JPG, PNG and BMP. The image size is not an issue since the program can automatically resize the picture to fit the scanned area.
