Subhash VCD Player Description
Although multimedia is one of the main types of entertainment accessed over the web, you still need media players for offline playback. Windows comes equipped with the basics to get you up and running, but there are an abundance of alternatives such as Subhash VCD Player which aim to offer better support for more formats.
Support for various audio and video formats
The application is based on Media Player classic, so you might notice some degree of resemblance. On the other hand, you are also able to play VCDs, as the name suggests, which not all media players are capable of, as well as other audio and video formats.
You can easily add files by dragging them over the main window or through the dedicated menu, which also displays the supported formats which range from DAT, VOB to common ones like FLV, MP3, MP4, OGG, WMV and more.
Far from being a pro of its kind
However, it's not all fun and games, the application feeling a little rough around the edges after a few files played. First of all, playback controls can only be triggered from the context menu or corresponding hotkeys, with no buttons displayed on the main window.
What's more, there's no integrated playlist to better organize your files, although there is an option to bring a list of files from the target directory, but with no selection options. You won't even find the possibility to load subtitles, which is a shame since the application is specialized in playing VCDs.
Can stay hidden in the system tray
Amongst others, you can capture static images that come with an option to be set as your wallpaper, but functionality issues prevent it from properly working. An advantage is that you can hide it in the system tray and use it for audio playback, but since the playlist is faultily implemented, practicality is questionable.
A few last words
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Subhash VCD Player is not really what you'd expect from a modern multimedia player. Feature set is only impressive in theory, taking it for a spin making you look for alternatives. Sure, it supports a decent amount of file formats, but it gets a little difficult to handle and it shouldn't, since it's only a video and audio player.
