SUPRead

Reading the subtitles available in Blu-ray content can be done with various applications, SUPread being one of them.
The tool is a simple one that does not require to be installed in order to access its functionality. Simply download it and launch the executable file. It works with SUP and SRT files.

Clear-cut interface

A straightforward interface provides quick access to the options, which are organized into menus that allow opening and manipulating the aforementioned file formats.
Once the data is loaded the user can save the bitmaps as well as export it to SUP format (if SRT subtitles are loaded). A SRT section allows modifying the subtitle text as well as the display time.

Moreover, the application supports the possibility to change the font type and enable OCR (optical character processing) for it. However, in our case the program generated multiple errors and the images could not be processed.
As far as the options are concerned, SUPread makes available the possibility to switch to a different frame rate, enable borders for the subtitles or add a background image for a customized experience.
Moreover, it offers OCR options for a more precise extraction of the characters. These include providing a value for correcting the skew as well as defining the space width, tag insertion and the language of the text.

Conclusion

Working with SUPread is not difficult but it does require knowledge about the properties of various subtitles and how they are built, especially since there is no proper documentation for it.
On the other hand, some actions could not be completed during our tests because the program would pop up an error message.
There are plenty of alternatives for this program, a great deal of them being actively developed and improved.
