Thumbnail Generator

Thumbnail Generator is a Java-based application that enables you to create thumbnails of any size from graphic files.
It comes loaded with simple options that can be approached even by users with no previous experience in such software.

No setup required, besides Java

As long as you have Java installed, you don't need to set up anything else. This means that you can copy the executable .jar file to a preferred directory on the disk or to a removable storage unit, in order to launch it on any PC with Java. It doesn't modify your system registry settings.

How it works

At startup, you're greeted by a small window that asks you to find and open an image file, after which you can set the percentage to which you want to resize, along with the quality of the new photos (low, normal, high).
The thumbnail is automatically generated in the next step and its location is opened by Thumbnail Generator, so you can open the new file in your default graphic viewer to inspect results. Worth noting is that it leaves the original images untouched, so you don't have to create backups before using this program.
On task completion, you can exit the tool or start again from scratch. Unfortunately, it doesn't support batch processing, so it cannot generate thumbnails from multiple images or entire directories at the same time. Moreover, it's not explicit concerning the supported file types. We have successfully tested it with JPG, BMP and TIF files.

Evaluation and conclusion

Tasks were carried out fast in our tests, during which Thumbnail Generator remained light on system resources consumption. We haven't experienced any stability issues.
Although it doesn't have a particularly rich set of options, Thumbnail Generator offers a speedy solution and user-friendly features for resizing images to create thumbnails.
