unCDcopy Description

Creating backup copies of audio CDs is always a good idea because in case the optical disc gets damaged, you can still have the music tracks available onto your computer. To achieve this, you can use one of the many dedicated applications that can rip and then save the copied songs.
UnCDcopy is one such utility, but, unfortunately, it shows its age and is quite difficult to get it up and running. Once you do, though, a simple wizard-like interface will make it rather easy for you to make those disc copies.

Two different operating modes

The program offers two operating modes and you have to choose the one that's right for your needs. Thus, you can opt for the online manner which implies searching the audio CD in a database. The query is done by the EAN code you should find in the form of a label stamped onto the case the disc came in.
The other modality in which you can run UnCDcopy is the offline mode. This time, you can choose to start a new local recording session or restore one that was previously saved. To configure the new session all you have to do is label the session, provide the artist name and CD title.

Follow the built-in steps

With the help of this application you should be able to create perfect backups, even for the discs that have copy protection. There are 7 steps altogether that have to be followed in order to get to the end of the job you started.

Bottom line

To conclude, those who are looking for a fast and safe means of copying their CDs, UnCDcopy is probably not what you need. Besides failing to carry out an online search, the difficulty of getting it up and running is definitely not worth taking the time.
