UPnP Tester Description

UPnP Tester is a small-sized and portable piece of software that displays all available UPnP devices.

The pros of portability

As there is no setup included in the pack, you can drop the app directory in any part of the hard disk and just click the EXE item to run.
Another possibility is to save a copy of UPnP Tester to the USB flash disk or similar removable storage unit, in order to run it on any PC effortlessly and without previously installing anything.
An important factor to consider is that the tool does not create new entries in the Windows registry, nor additional files on the disk, leaving it clean after removal.
If the "UPnP Device Host" service is not currently running on the actual user account, then UPnP Tester offers to start it, letting the user select the startup mode between automatic (at every Windows boot) and manual.

Clear-cut interface

The interface is represented by a single window with a straightforward look, where the scanning procedure takes little time to finish.
So, you can select the type of devices to monitor such as basic, digital security camera, printers or media servers, along with the address family (IPv4 or IPv6). The app immediately shows them in a tree view in the main frame, along with status information right beneath.

Export information and disable services

These details can be saved to a plain text document for closer inspection. UPnP Tester also gives you the possibility to disable a selected UPnP service with the click of a button and a confirmation dialog. There are no other notable options available here.

Conclusion

The app leaves a minimal footprint on computer performance, as it requires only low CPU and RAM to work properly. We have not ran into any unpleasant surprises during our evaluation, since the tool did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. All in all, UPnP Tester serves its purpose and can be used by anyone.
