Upx Gui Description
Upx Gui is, as the name clearly hints at, the graphical user interface for UPX. It allows you to pack and decompress DLLs, EXEs, and SCRs.
This software tool is portable therefore, installation is not a prerequisite. You can copy the program files to any removable storage unit (e.g. USB flash drive), and run it on any computer you can connect to, by simply double-clicking the executable.
Another important aspect you have to take into consideration is that the Windows registry will not be updated with new entries, and there will be no leftover files upon its removal.
The interface is user-friendly and enables anybody to get around it with great ease, even those with little to no experience with computers.
This software utility can scan uploaded files, with the help of PEiD, and can tell you if you should decompress or pack it. Executables can be uploaded by using the built-in file browser or the “drag and drop†function.
The main window displays the old and new size of all added items, as well as a progress bar, so that you can easily tell the remaining time.
From the settings panel, you can enable or disable an entry in the Windows Explorer context menu, adjust the compression speed versus strength, and exit the program after (de)compression or not.
The process does not require many system resources, yet you should know the duration might vary, depending on the size of the uploaded file and your computer’s performance.
To sum up, Upx Gui is a useful piece of software for packing and unpacking EXE, DLL and SCR files, with a good response time and an intuitive interface. We did not detect any errors or crashes in our tests.
