VR Player Description
VR Player is an application especially designed to help you play video content on head mounted displays, generally used for virtual reality.
Straightforward interface and easy to use
Right off the bat, VR Player is very simple to operate and configure. It displays a classic styled interface which focuses on video delivery and quickly accessible features. You have all the menus you need at the top side of the main window and two buttons that play/pause and stop the video.
Since VR Player is meant to be a virtual reality media player it’s not that important how it looks opposed to having an accurate rendering of the video material itself.
Multiple projection types and trackers
VR Player is a virtual reality media player created for head-mounted display devices such Oculus Rift. You can choose from ‘Plane’, ‘Cube’, ‘Cylinder’, ‘Dome’, ‘Full dome’, ‘Sphere’ and you can also import a custom geometry from Maya. Each of these can be used with regular movies that are played on a virtual screen, video games, panoramic images as well as 360 videos.
As far as trackers for orientation and position go, VR Player offers support for your mouse and devices like as Wiimote with Motion Plus, PS Move controller, Razer Hydra, Micorsoft Kinect, VRPN clients, LEAP motion and YEI 3-space.
Effects and distortions
To be able to push the virtual experience a bit and make it more enjoyable, VR Player allows you to apply barrel and pincushion distortions to the video. Moreover, the player provides a series of effects, more or less artistic but great looking, which you can use to enhance the video or image. It’s possible to choose from ‘Anaglyph’, ‘Depthmap over/under’, ‘Toon Shader’, ‘Monochrome’, ‘Pixelate’, ‘Bloom’, ‘ColorKey Alpha’, ‘Parametric Edge Detection’, ‘Old Movie’ and others.
Play videos using a virtual reality headset
To sum things up, if you’re looking for a practical and reliable way of playing videos and exploring images using a head mounted display, then you can certainly try VR Player.
