WinDigest Description

WinDigest is a practical Windows application that gives you the possibility to calculate the MD5 and SHA1 hashsums of files.
This can tell you if a file is intact by comparing the original and new checksum to find out if the alphanumerical values match.

Outdated MD5 and SHA1 calculator

Before proceeding any further, you should know that WinDigest hasn't received updates for a while and it might not work on newer Windows versions. For example, we couldn't get it to run on Windows 10 in our tests.

Gets integrated into the Explorer context menu

Following a speedy setup operation that shouldn't impose any difficulties, WinDigest gets integrated into the right-click menu of Windows Explorer.
Thus, you can seamlessly calculate the MD5 or SHA1 hash of any file by opening its context menu in Windows Explorer.
The new entry you should look for is "WinDigest". The utility quickly processes the file and displays its hash, enabling you to send it to the Clipboard with one click.

Calculate and compare MD5 or SHA1 hashes

Moreover, the developer has implemented a feature for verifying the file's digest by comparing its hash to another one.
In this case, you just have to indicate the first file, choose between MD5 and SHA1 mode, and then paste the MD5 or SHA1 checksum of the second file.
A message dialog pops up to tell you if the two checksums match. If they don't, then you can view the hash of the first file.

Simple but outdated SHA1 and MD5 calculator

As previously mentioned, we failed in our attempts to get WinDigest to work on Windows 10 in our tests, even when resorting to the compatibility troubleshooter for older OS versions.
However, it worked smoothly on older Windows. It provides a simple and straightforward way of calculating and comparing MD5 and SHA1 checksums via the Windows Explorer context menu.
