Windows 10 Reboot Blocker Description

Windows 10 Reboot Blocker is a tiny app whose purpose is to prevent Windows 10 from automatically restarting the computer after getting the latest system updates from Microsoft. It works as a service and only if you have the Windows 10 with Anniversary Update (Version 1607).

Prevent Windows 10 with Anniversary Update from rebooting the PC after installing updates

To check if your operating system meets the requirement, you can use the Run tool (Win+R) with "winver", a command which brings up the "About Windows" panel where you can view the Windows version.
Before the Anniversary Update, Windows would automatically restart the workstation as soon as it downloaded and installed the updates, meaning that any unsaved projects you were working on would be lost.
Luckily, this OS update comes with a feature that gives you the possibility to restrict Windows' behavior and allow it to restart only within the hours you find convenient. You can control this from the "Change active hours" option of the Windows Update settings panel. However, the time slot cannot be over 12 hours.

Silently runs in the background as a service

This is where Windows 10 Reboot Blocker comes in to overcome this time issue. It continuously blocks Windows 10 reboots by running as a service. You just have to run the downloaded setup pack.
The service runs at every system startup automatically to monitor the computer and block Windows 10 auto restart. There is no graphical interface involved but you can check to see if it's running from Task Manager.
Also, you can access the Services panel to view the properties of the "RebootBlockerService" entry, change the startup type and logon account, or set up recovery options if the service fails. It can be easily uninstalled if you don't want it anymore.

Simple reboot blocker for Windows 10 with Anniversary Update

All aspects considered, Windows 10 Reboot Blocker solves a simple issue that most Windows 10 users find annoying: stopping automatic computer restarts after installing the latest system updates. There are no configuration settings involved aside from the optional ones which apply to all services, so casual users with no computer experience can install this tool without any trouble. It had minimal impact on the computer's performance in our tests.
