This is a Windows Update KB917607 available only for Windows Vista. You can download two distinct setup files, for 32-bit and 64-bit system. It can be effortlessly installed to integrate support for Windows 32-bit Help files that have the .hlp extension.
This way, you can access the help manual of any software application which implements this Windows standard while avoiding the "Feature not included" or "Help not supported" errors which pop up when trying to open these kind of files.
This operating system update has the same KB917607 code displayed for Windows 8.1, 8, 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2, and Vista. However, there are separate setup files available for each OS edition and each architecture type, so make sure youre downloading the one suitable for your Windows version.
The update is a substitute for the WinHlp32.exe Windows program, which was shipped with Microsofts earlier OSes, starting with Windows 3.1. However, the company stopped developing important updates for this utility. Because it no longer met Microsofts requirements, WinHlp32 was no longer bundled with Windows, starting with Windows Vista. At the moment, it can be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Download Center.
