WinFileCrypt Description
Just having an antivirus installed on your computer doesn’t fully secure your computer. For instance, an antivirus can’t prevent others from sitting on your chair while you’re away and snooping through files. However, WinFileCrypt can, by making sure that even if important files are found, they can’t be accessed.
Lightweight and easy to use
What makes it worth at least a first inspection is portability, which represents a major advantage for apps of its kind. This enables you to carry files of high importance, along with the utility on the same USB flash drive, so only you can access them. In addition, the PC you use it on stays intact, since registries are not a dependency.
On the visual side of things, the application presents its set of features through a classic window interface, with options neatly laid out for quick accommodation. What’s more, loading files is only done through drag and drop, which is pretty fast, letting you overlook the lack of a context menu integration.
Overwrites original files
The overall process is simple, and takes little while to finish. A toggle button lets you decide whether you want to encrypt or decrypt, with an accompanying icon which changes accordingly, making it easy to identify the process you’re about to put in motion.
The application uses a 3DES cipher-block-chained encryption method, with a 128 bit key. A password also needs to be set, and it’s best to remember it, because encryption overwrites the original file and you risk losing it. Although you can choose other algorithms for the encryption process, this one can give enough headaches to those trying to forcefully decrypt.
On an ending note
All things considered, we can safely state that WinFileCrypt can help you quickly add an extra layer of security to your files. Even though it uses only one type of algorithm, it can suffice for personal use. Loading files is easily done through drag and drop, and portability makes sure you always have this security method at hand.
