Winsock Repair Description
Winsock Repair is a straightforward piece of software that can reset the Winsock configuration to default state, in order to fix common Internet connectivity problems. It features one-click repair features and shows technical details for advanced users.
This is a portable application, so installing it is not necessary. You can drop the program files to any location on the hard disk and run the executable immediately.
As an alternative, you can move Winsock Repair to a USB flash drive or similar storage unit, in order to fix the Windsock settings of any machine quickly and with minimum effort.
What's more, the Windows registry does not get new entries, and file traces are not left on the hard disk after removing the application.
Its interface is formed from a common window with a few buttons, where you can initialize the one-click repair task to repair the Winsock settings in a few seconds. Note that your Internet connection will be temporarily disabled, and a system restart is required to apply the new changes.
In addition, it is possible to reset TCP/IP v6 interfaces in a similar manner to re-register registry keys used by the Internet Protocol stack (if the protocol is installed).
You can view a list of LSPs (Layered Service Providers), release or renew TCP/IP connections, flush the DNS resolver cache, refresh all DHCP leases and re-register DNS names, as well as reset the Windows Firewall configuration.
Log details are shown in the bottom part of the screen and recorded to a LOG file. Plus, you can check out any errors in the Windows Event Viewer, which can be directly accessed from the File menu in Winsock Repair's primary panel.
The program carries out a task rapidly and without errors. It has a good reaction speed and doesn't burden system performance, since it runs on low CPU and RAM. It didn't cause the OS to hang, crash or pop up errors in our evaluation. All in all, Winsock Repair serves its purpose.
