Leaving your desktop unattended puts you at risk of becoming a victim of practical jokes or even of data theft, depending on your working environment and the people in it. However, there are basic solutions to keep your desktop protected by having it locked, either using the operating system's default function or with applications like yCorrupt Desktop Locker.

Lightweight and easy to use

The application comes in a small package and can easily be used on a wide array of configurations. What's more, it doesn't need to be installed so you can keep it on a removable storage device and simply launch it on any target computer.

New password for each session

In order to keep your desktop safe, the application aims to block all attempt to launch any program and prevent access to all areas of the computer. This is done by covering your screen with a background picture, which is only removed if the correct password is provided.

Far from being a pro of its kind

Once the application is launched, you are asked for a security key, but the field in which it is typed only displays latin characters so you must be careful who's watching. Unfortunately, there's no implemented option to keep the password saved and simply lock the screen by running the application.
In addition, there are no other background options, nor the possibility to forcefully change the default one. Another useful feature would have been hotkey support, along with the possibility to launch at startup so that it does not use precious desktop space.

All things considered, yCorrupt Desktop locker doesn't bring anything new in the world of desktop security, nor does it manage to impress with any features. Although portable, it lacks the flexibility which could have made it live a bit more up to expectations. Moreover, functions are not completely locked and advanced users might still be able to reach your desktop one way or another.
