YouSendIt Desktop App is a simple-to-use, yet powerful software application that proposes a simple method for file sharing, which is similar to Dropbox. You can use it to provide an easy way to access you work files from home, or to allow access to other users so that they can download or upload data.

Easy file sharing with context menu integration

Once installed, the tool creates an icon in the system tray area for quick access, along with a folder on the local disk that can seamlessly navigated using Windows Explorer. Any files or folders dropped in this directory become available for sharing as soon as data is synchronized by YouSendIt Desktop App.
What's more, the program integrates an entry in the Explorer shell extension which allows you to easily share one or multiple selected files or folders by opening their right-click menu.

Send invites and manage user permissions

The way it works is that you can invite other users to access the files by sending them an invitation via email. All you have to do is specify their email address and message, as well as manage their permissions so that they are permitted to view and modify folder content, or to just view it. One or more invites can be sent at the same time with the same messages.
Moreover, YouSendIt Desktop App populates a list with all remote users where you can study their email addresses, permissions and status (e.g. accepted, pending). It is possible to remove any user from the list, send an email to everyone, as well as request verification to view your files.
From the system tray icon's context menu you can pause data synchronization and hide notifications, select folders to sync, view log files with the recorded program activity, as well as delete temporary files to free up space on the disk.

Evaluation and conclusion

We have not come across any stability issues in our tests, since YouSendIt Desktop App did not hang, crash or pop up error messages. It synchronizes files in reasonable time while remaining light on system resources.
On the other hand, it sports a limited set of features and configuration settings when comparing it to other similar desktop clients. Otherwise, YouSendIt Desktop App gets the job done and facilitates a simple solution to file sharing.
