youtubeDLgui is a simple, lightweight program, which allows you to acquire video content from YouTube in a short time. The application features a GUI, however its functions can be manually defined, as in command line. The software supports setting parameters such as file size, format and video quality.

Graphic interface for command line program

youtubeDLgui is the graphic interface of youtube-dl, the command line utility which is capable of extracting content from YouTube. The application allows you to download videos from hosting websites such as YouTube, Metacafe, DailyMotion, Tumblr and several others.
Moreover, youtubeDLgui is simple to use: all you need to do is insert the desired URL in the dedicated field, then generate the default command line task. Next you just need to click the Download button and let the program acquire the file. You may make a series of modifications, depending on your preferences, using the command templates from Help.txt.

Configure video settings

youtubeDLgui requires that you manually change the settings, in order to download the video in a different format or at a higher speed. The Help.txt document contains a list of all the supported commands along with explanations for each of them.
For example, you may set a different format in which to save the video, a higher video quality, if supported, download the entire playlist or set the maximum transfer rate. You can also change the file name, acquire video description, extract audio streams or even create subtitle files.

Application dependencies

youtubeDLgui is dependent on youtube-dl, which means that the file must be maintained in the same folder as the graphic interface utility. Moreover, it is recommended that you update the youtube-dl tool regularly, by using the dedicated button in the interface. The program saves all downloads to its folder, by default, however, you can easily change the output location using the dedicated function.
