ARMu Description

ARMu is an advanced and portable program that permits software developers to extract and debug code from ARM files. It comes loaded with several comprehensive options.

Portability perks

As there is no setup pack implied, you can drop its executable file anywhere on the hard drive and just click it to launch ARMu. There's also the possibility to keep it stored on a USB flash drive, in order to run it on any computer with minimum effort and no previous installers. Moreover, it doesn't modify Windows registry settings.

Clear-cut interface and options

The GUI is user-friendly, made from a large window with a neatly organized structure, where you can get started by opening a binary file with the BIN format to study its code.
It's possible to use a search function, view the hexadecimal code of the file, choose between normal and UTF8 strings, search for code references (e.g. branch, subroutine, direct load, address), filter the database, import IDA dump IDC, dump the database to IDC, as well as display viewers for the register, stack and CP15. The binary file can be seamlessly debugged.

Evaluation and conclusion

There were no stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the software application didn't hang, crash or prompt error dialogs. It had a low impact on computer performance, running on low CPU and RAM.
To sum it up, ARMu provides you with a user-friendly workspace for disassembling ARM binary files, and it's geared toward expert users.
