Database Benchmark Description

Database Benchmark is a completely free and open source tool for database developers and engineers and anyone else who needs to test database performance. Thanks to the fact that it is open source, developers can easily modify it in any way they want in order to adapt tests to more specific applications or even create entirely new tests. In this day and age, when many companies are heavily reliant on databases, it is important to ensure that performance and reliability are up to scratch.

Over the years, the data became increasingly valuable asset for governments, businesses and people around the world. Management of even larger volumes of data and the evolving specifics of its type remain critical technical challenge. Database Benchmarking was created as an open source project to provide a foundation for system architects and IT managers to compare NoSQL and SQL engines in their own environments before deciding which technology to use for a new application.

The implementation approach for every database are taken from the vendor’s public websites. Database vendors and contributors are invited to propose better practices in the implementations.

The framework provides functional capabilities to run workload benchmarks of both sequential and random keys under various options for key and record lenghts, table count and number of records. It delivers user-friendly vizualizing components to output the results of the speed, time and database size.

The GUI of the benchmark is very simple and easy to use. There is a TreeView containing the currently implemented databases, which are categorized by their engine (“W-Tree”, “B-Tree” etc.). The main idea is to compare the different technologies behind the engines, not to compare the databases themselves.

The defined “Tick” data structure describes the on-moment state of a currency unit. Large volumes of this type of data is processed in real-time and archived by the Financial Institutions and Banks in real world.
