BDE Information Utility Description
Some applications require a specific type of runtime or a certain engine to be installed on the system on which they are about to be deployed. In case these components are not included in the setup package, you will have to go through the trouble of finding the appropriate version yourself.
There are some tools that you can use, though, and avoid all the fuss very easily, like BDE Information Utility. This particular software is meant to help anyone get the Borland Database Engine onto their PCs and it can also test it after the installation.
The package can be easily set up and as soon as it finishes transferring the necessary files onto your system you will be able to check out the details from the main window of BDE Information Utility. More precisely, you can view the current path to the BDE DLL, the location of the configuration file as well as the version of the installed engine.
Before putting Borland Database Engine to the test, you have another option to adjust, more precisely, you can pick the InterBase dialect to be used, either 1 or 3. Of this choice depends the database performance and compatibility.
The actual verification consists of generating a Paradox table and opening it and in case this operation is carried out successfully, then you will know that BDE was installed correctly. You will not have to worry about the above mentioned table because, in case the test is passed, it will be erased automatically by BDE Information Utility.
All in all, this is indeed a useful tool, but it is much limited by the fact that it only works for the 5.2 version of the Borland Database Engine.
