CapsHook Description
CapsHook is an application produced by Asus that allows you to view the status of the Num Lock and Caps Lock keys inside the system tray.
Such an application is suited for users who own keyboards that don’t have LED indicators, providing them with a simple, yet efficient way to keep tabs on the Num Lock and Caps Lock keys.
Having been produced by Asus, we thought at first that it would only be compatible with Asus systems, but to our surprise, it seemed to work just fine on computers produced by other companies as well.
Following a quick and painless installation process is the acquaintance with the program’s feature set. It doesn’t have a GUI, but instead it makes itself available through a system tray icon, which is the standard approach for most applications of this type.
It displays two small indicators next to one another, colored in green if the keys are active and in grey otherwise. Every time you activate or deactivate one of the keys, you are prompted by a message inside the system tray.
For instance, if both keys are active and you press Caps Lock key by mistake, it notifies you that only Num Lock is on currently and if you disable both keys, the icon in the system tray simply disappears.
However, the process is kept running in the background, alerting you all over again whenever one of the keys has been enabled.
Overall, CapsHook works quite decently and is minimally invasive through the system tray approach. It immediately notifies you when you’ve changed the status of Caps Lock or Num Lock keys and works on all systems, despite being produced by Asus.
