Character Encoding Converter Description
Character Encoding Converter is a Windows application designed to change the character encoding mode of plain text documents as easy as possible. It supports a wide range of encoding formats, including UTF-8, UTF-16, ASCII, IBM and ISO.
Change the encoding mode of text documents
Installing this program isn't necessary because it's portable. This means that you can unpack the downloaded file and just double-click the executable to fire up Character Encoding Converter in no time. The main app window is user-friendly, thanks to the fact that the settings are neatly displayed.
It's possible to convert multiple files at the same time by using the integrated file browser to find and select the items. However, it's important to keep in mind that the files are processed automatically. Therefore, any adjustments should be made before turning to the file browser.
Configure conversion settings easily
You can choose the source and output type of the text documents, indicate the saving directory of the new files, ask the tool to perform translations or to disregard this aspect, and set the buffer size. Moreover, you can create a prefix for the output file names as well as allow the app to overwrite the source files if they have the same names.
Additional options are available in the menu bar, where you can swap the source and output encoding types, store the encoding names to the clipboard (grouped or ungrouped), view system information, and configure UTF options, such as setting UTF-8 with or without BOM.
Fast and easy-to-use encoding converter
Text documents were carried out quickly in our tests while the software program remained light on system resources consumption. Although Character Encoding Converter hasn't been updated for a very long time, we haven't encountered any compatibility issues with Windows 10 in our testing. Thanks to its approachable interface and options, it can be used by anyone looking for a fast way of changing the encoding mode of plain text documents.
