CountDown Description
CountDown is a Java-based software utility that capable of counting down to important events you specify, such as tasks, meetings, appointments, birthdays, or anything else. It contains some basic options that can be easily tackled by all types of users.
No setup required, besides Java
As long as you have Java installed, you don't need to set up anything else. This means that you can save the executable .jar file to a custom location on the HDD or copy it to a removable storage unit, in order to seamlessly run CountDown on any PC with minimum effort. It doesn't create files on the disk without asking for your permission or modify your system registry settings.
Create and manage countdown timers
As far as the interface goes, the app adopts a minimalistic-looking window that lets you create as many timers as you want. All you have to do is specify the date and time, along with a description. The order of the events can be modified any time. Plus, you can remove any entry from the list if you change your mind.
Customize UI preferences
When it comes to interface options, you can modify the default font name, size and style, counter format, along with the foreground and background colors. There are no other notable settings available. the tool gets minimized to the taskbar and doesn't offer support for audio alerts.
Evaluation and conclusion
It worked well in our evaluation, without triggering the operating system to hang, crash or indicate errors. It used a low amount of CPU and RAM, so it didn't hamper system performance.
Although it doesn't have richer options and configuration settings, CountDown offers a simple solution for creating and managing multiple countdown timers for upcoming events. It's free for non-commercial use.
