CreateM3U Description
CreateM3U is a simple-to-use software tool that gives you the possibility to generate playlist files using tracks and entire albums saved in the CATraxx database.
Simple setup and GUI
The setup operation doesn't take long and contains familiar options that shouldn't impose any difficulties. Needless to say, you must have the music cataloging utility installed, since CreateM3U gets integrated with it and launched from its interface.
It automatically searches for the CATraxx.Dataserver file at startup and brings up a user-friendly window with a neatly organized structure, where music from the CATraxx database is automatically loaded at startup.
Configure M3U playlist settings
The tool is capable of putting together M2U playlists from all, marked or selected albums or playlists from the selected or album folder, depending on your preferences. It enables you to specify the new playlist's filename, encoding method and destination directory, as well as to generate a relative or absolute path.
Some statistical information is displayed, concerning the number of read albums and playlists, along with the total M3U files written. Plus, you can review the file or folder name, together with the result for each action performed within this program.
Evaluation and conclusion
It's equipped with intuitive options for creating M3U playlists using the CATraxx database. No error dialogs popped up in our tests and it didn't hang or crash. Unsurprisingly, it used a low amount of CPU and RAM, so it didn't hamper system performance.
Although CATraxx is now discontinued, it can still be downloaded from the developer's website, so you can still use CreateM3U, even if you're a casual user with little experience. It built playists pretty fast in our tests and it's free to use. However, it hasn't received updates for a long time.
