Lightweight and easy to use

After you're done downloading the application you can go ahead and see what it's all about. No installation is required, which means system registries are not tampered with, thus not affecting your PC's health status. It can easily be used on the go by storing it on a USB Flash drive.
The main window is pretty compact and doesn't pose any accommodation problems. Most of the space is used to display files in directories, while controls only count as a few, but suffice for what is delivered.

Prepare directories before selection

Sadly enough, the application doesn't integrate its simple function in your context menu, which would have been a great advantage. What's more, you can't even drag directories over the main window, so you're down to using the integrated file explorer.
Once you load a directory, all folders and files found, regardless of depth, are enlisted in a tree view. However, once the list is generated, there's nothing left to do than explore the list or export it. If you want to add more folders this needs to be done before using the application, because each new directory you load replaces the last selection.

Poor set of output options

The output is said to come out as XML, but this only means having character format applied automatically, with options to save the file under any format as long as you provide the proper extension. This would have come in handy if XML was no the only syntax, because it's a little less practical format and you need to use other applications for viewing or processing.

In conclusion

Bottom line is that Dir2XML comes with good intentions but its set of features leaves a little more to be desired. The interface is simple and intuitive enough, with target directories that also include subfolders. However, it can be used in various environments, but you need to use other processing utilities or viewers.
