DiskChart

No matter how much space there is on your hard disk drive it always seems to get filled. Except for viewing the total amount of occupied space, there is no default way to know exactly what it is taken up by. Applications like DiskChart give you the possibility to find out how much every file occupies by creating a chart.

View pie charts for folders and file types

Your main workspace is split into three tabs so that information is clearly visible. First, you get an explorer that lets you navigate through your computer until reaching the desired directory.
Unfortunately, there is no implemented function that lets you operate files and folders in any way, drastically reducing potential. Switching to the next two tabs displays pie charts of folders and file types. A legend informs you what color each represents, but no exact detail on the occupied space itself is displayed.

Several customization options

If the visual aspect of the chart itself or the background concern you, then rest assured that they can be modified. Bringing up the “Customize” menu gives you access to options for changing the background color as well as importing an image.
Moreover, the number of slices shown in the chart can be increased or decreased and attributed a different color. Same applies for the pie itself which can suffer from several adjustments.

One of the biggest disadvantages of the application is that you have to bring up more windows in order to get the desired info. Neither of the pie charts display technical data, and no implemented function allows you to enable this.
Only a single info window can be opened at a time and the rest of the application is locked until you finish viewing the details or printing them out on a sheet of paper.

All in all, DiskChart wants to deliver a neat idea but missed out several important features which had made it more user friendly. You manage to get desired info from it, but with a lot of clicking involved. Overall, its strongest parts remain intentions.
