DSF/MFT Viewer Portable

DSF/MFT Viewer Portable is a small-sized utility that gives you the possibility to view detailed information about video codecs. It supports DirectShow Filters (DSFs) and Media Foundation Transforms (MFTs), and it autodetects your installed libraries.

It's not necessary to install this application since you can unzip the downloaded archive and double-click the executable to reach the main window. However, .NET Framework must be installed or it won't work. It's built into newer Windows versions, though, so you just have to make sure that the feature is turned on.

Pick an audio, video or other filter to view detailed information

The interface of DSF/MFT Viewer Portable is clean and intuitive, keeping the DirectShow and Media Foundation filters displayed in two separate areas. You can browse the list of all supported codecs and view detailed info, such as the CLSID, attribute, merit, full path to the disk file, file version and description, company name, product name and version, along with the media type.
In some cases, it's possible to edit properties. For example, for AVI Mux, you can pick the interleaving mode (none, capture, full, none - buffered) and interleaving parameters (frequency, audio preroll), disable the AVI compatibility index, and enable a capture drift master stream.

It's also possible to toggle 32- and 64-bit mode for the selected filter, hide the filter type from the list and show the filters in groups (audio, video, other), as well as register or unregister any filter (requires administrator rights). Furthermore, you can view a list of preferred DSFs and MFTs.
We haven't experienced any compatibility issues while running this application on Windows 10 in our tests. Unsurprisingly, it had minimal impact on the computer's performance. All aspects considered, DSF/MFT Viewer Portable comes in handy to all users interested in learning mode info about their installed audio, video and other filters compatible with DirectShow Filter and Media Foundation Transform.
