Emsisoft Decrypter for Cry9 Description
Emsisoft Decrypter for Cry9 is a small utility designed to help you recover files that are inaccessible because they are locked down by the Cry9 ransomware.
It sneaks into your PC via vulnerable RDP services
Based on the observations made by security experts, Cry9 ransomware is mostly targeted at remote desktop services that have outdated protection, as the malware enters the system via brute force attacks. As soon as it is in, the malware deleted the recovery points along with the shadow copies, so you have no means to recover the data from within the system.
Even though the ransomware does not have a trademark extension, its particularity is that it skips the User Profile, Program Files and Windows directories from the encryption. It is worth mentioning that Cry9 uses relatively strong encryption algorithms, namely SHA-512 along with a modified AES version. This is why the infected files are with 16 bytes larger than the original data.
Drag the infected file along with a clean copy and be patient
First off, it is important to note that you need to remove the malware from your computer, as otherwise, your computer is likely to get locked repeatedly. The second step entails that you look for an infected file that is at least 124 kb and a clean copy of it. While the latter might be harder to find, you can try searching for it in the cloud, email or other storage devices.
Once you drag and drop them over the decryptor, the application attempts to reconstruct the parameters of the encryption, a process that can take some time. When it find it, the utility displays a purely informational process that simply confirms that the decryption is successful.
A tool for recovering data encrypted by Cry9
All things considered, if you have been a victim of ransomware and you recognize the aforementioned infection signs, then you can consider using Emsisoft Decrypter for Cry9 to recover your data.
