File Lister Description
File Explorer is the basic method of navigating through files and folders, and also to analyze them. However, you might simply need a list of items inside a directory, but there’s not really a tool in Windows to accomplish this operation. Luckily, there are third-party options in this regard, and File Lister is a suitable example here.
Instantly enlists files in the selected directory
Since you’re not taken through a setup process, the application can be put to good use from the moment it reaches your computer. Moreover, it’s possible to have it deployed on a thumb drive along with other tools you might need, just in case you want or need to use it on other computers. Registry entries are not modified during runtime.
It starts in a pretty compact window, which doesn’t really make a proper first impression. However, a second look reveals that this simplicity is enough to gather all info of interest. You can easily resize the window to have more view space of both the navigation panel, and the list which shows files.
Additional view details to enable
The only way to reach a directory of interest is through the navigation panel, which is also fitted with a drop-down menu for drives. The press of a button displays all files inside the selected folder. Unfortunately, it doesn’t specify the amount of detected items, or the total size of the selected directory.
There are some options you can use to your advantage. Additional view settings can be toggled, such as extensions, file size, subdirectories, and sort output. Unfortunately, the application can’t show too many files in the list, and you need to scroll through pages. Sadly, copying the list only does so for the currently visible items.
In conclusion
Taking everything into consideration, we can state that File Lister is the type of tool used to enlist all items inside a selected folder. Although detection is done quite fast, the level of detail provided leaves much to be desired, especially the limited slots in the list.
