FLocker Description
Security concerns probably reached the peak in these modern times because of the free-will that’s dominating the Internet and gives anyone, including hackers, the chance to perfect their skills. However, a hacker is nothing more than a developer gone bad, and those that stay on the good side create applications like Flocker.
Simple design makes it easy to use
Once the application takes you through the phases of the installer, you’re good to go. On the visual side of things, it doesn’t boast any special elements to distract you, keeping its set of features in a pretty compact main window. This simplicity keeps you from wasting time with accommodation and makes sure you’re up and running in a jiffy.
As the name might lead you to believe, the application’s core function is to secure important files by encrypting them with a strong algorithm. Although there are various existing algorithms, you don’t get to choose the one you like, so you have to trust entirely in the program’s capabilities.
Good, but far from being a pro
You can encrypt any kind of file and to load it you need to rely on the browse dialog, because drag and drop is not supported. The next thing to do is configure a password which is used as the base of the algorithm, and to be able to unlock it as well.
If the lack of choice for the algorithm disappoints, then you might want to know you do get to choose something in the end. The application can create two different packages. One of them only gives you the possibility to view content, and locks it immediately once you’re done viewing content, while the other also lets you extract it.
The good thing is that you don’t need to have the application installed on your computer to unlock or view content, but you do need to know the password. The bad part is that you might not be able to view all kinds of files, and since you don’t actually get to see the type but just the content, you can’t even change the default program to open it with.
In conclusion
Taking everything into consideration, we can safely state that FLocker is a lightweight security solution with which you can easily encrypt any kind of file, at least to keep predators at bay. It might not be the right choice for confidential material, or really important projects, but it gets the job done fast and as intended.
