Cipher Text Description
Although the Internet is the place to easily gather most types of information, it’s not really a secure place, depending where you wander off. Even conversations can be at risk, but there are methods to increase security. For instance, Cipher Text is the type of application which can make your text strings unreadable until deciphered.
Paste source text or write it on the spot
On the bright side of things, the application doesn’t take you through a setup process to make its features available, so you can just as well use it directly from a thumb drive on the computer you need to. Note, however, that it depends on .NET Framework to function, so you might first want to make sure it’s installed.
All it has to offer is found in a pretty compact window, but doesn’t keep you busy with the accommodation process, because functions are in plain sight, organized in an intuitive manner. There’s a large text pad to paste or write your source text, as well as available options found in a clean menu bar.
Encryption based on a custom password
Launching the application for the first time brings up a prompt, asking you to provide a password, which is best to remember, because it’s the only way to be able to decrypt text later on. This prevents others from deciphering encrypted text strings. In case you’re not satisfied with the original key, you can change it later on, but it doesn’t work for strings encrypted with different passwords.
Unfortunately, the application doesn’t come with support for external files, so text string either needs to be written on the spot, or pasted from the clipboard. The same goes for saving, operation which also depends on the clipboard.
In conclusion
Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Cipher Text is a pretty straightforward encryption tool. Sadly, you can’t target a file, even if plain text, and the algorithm used in the process doesn’t really make you feel safe, even if the result is unreadable.
