FolderVisualizer Description

Analyzing disk space isn’t such a difficult task, but Windows fails to deliver a convenient mode to view the size of multiple directories in a single instance. Luckily, there are all kinds of third-party applications specialized in directory analysis, and one suitable example in this regard is FolderVisualizer.

Easily choose a folder to analyze

In order to be able to install the application, you might want to check whether or not Adobe AIR is already on your PC, as it’s a mandatory requirement for functionality as well. The first time the application is launched, a browse dialog shows up so you select the folder you want to inspect.
Depending on the size and complexity of the selected folder, it can take a bit of time for the entire map to be generated. The view space fills up with sections of different size values, depending on the amount of data found in corresponding folders. These are neatly split across the interface to make identification of space distribution easy.

Good, but far from being a pro

There’s a set of controls on the side, letting you close the program, deleted the selected folder from your computer, or open a new folder for inspection. More than that, you find a slider which can be used to increase or decrease the number of visible folder. Sadly, there aren’t any filter options, and it might get tricky to identify items in a crowded directory.
Selecting an item neatly highlights it. However, there are little to no operations which can be performed. You’re free to navigate back and forth through folders, but you’re never really aware of the exact location. Files are also displayed by size, but these can’t be accessed directly, or even removed.

To end with

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that FolderVisualizer comes with a fresh visual design to help easily identify large folders on your computer. Sadly, the view can get pretty complicated in crowded folders, and there are no filter options to work with to better organize the workspace.
