Free Barcode Generator is a very straightforward utility that enables you to generate barcodes and export them to JPG files. It offers a very limited array of features, however, and it is less than impressive appearance-wise.

Cannot be used in offline mode

While Free Barcode Generator is opened in a standard application window, it simply accesses the online version of this utility, which means that an Internet connection is required for the program to function correctly.
This is certainly not a major issue, as a desktop alternative to the web-based generator is more than welcome, but it would have been great if it could be used offline as well.

Simple barcode generator that offers several customization options

Free Barcode Generator supports the following symbologies: Code 90, Code 128, Codabar, Plessey Code, MSI Barcode and ITF (Interleaved 2 of 5). Naturally, some restrictions are applied to the input characters depending on the symbology you select, but the program provides explanations whenever necessary.
You can also specify whether or not the text and border should be displayed in the generated barcode, as well as customize its height and width.
Lastly, when you are pleased with the results, you can export the barcode to a JPG image file. Sadly, though, no other output formats are supported.

Unpolished user interface that needs to be improved in certain respects

From a visual standpoint, Free Barcode Generator is quite disappointing. The UI is very outdated, and it is not possible to resize the application window, which means that you need to scroll down after creating a barcode if you wish to perform the operation again.
On the whole, this is a lightweight utility that allows you to access the web-based Free Barcode Generator from your desktop, without having to fire up your web browser. It supports few barcode symbologies, however, and it would benefit from a redesigned interface.
