Free File Splitter Description
Storage devices tend to get smaller in physical size and larger in actual bites. Even so, you can still encounter limitations regarding file size values, and it can often be the case when you want to upload or attach files which are beyond the supported size value. Luckily, applications like Free File Splitter are just the right tools in this regard.
Easily select the file to split and output directory
Setup doesn’t take a lot of time, and you’re also offered to have the application launched right afterwards. However, it doesn’t make any changes to registry entries, so you can even deploy it on a USB flash drive in case you want to use it on other computers. Stability of the target PC is not put at risk.
The interface is pretty minimal, wrapped around a classic window frame, with several custom elements here and there. A couple of fields need to be filled in with input and output options, after which the split criteria becomes available. Drag and drop is not supported as an input method, so you need to rely on the browse dialog.
Set size in KB or MB of output chunks
There’s not really a size limit to the file you wish to split. Only one item can be targeted at a time, but you can create an archive and have it split if necessary. Split criteria requires you to provide the numerical value in either KB or MB. Unfortunately, there are no preset size values which create files to perfectly fit on CDs, for instance.
Time it takes to perform the split operation mostly depends on the input file size. All chunks are deployed in the output directory. On the bright side of things, the application also deploys a batch file which is used to bundle back components into the input file. However, split parts need to be manually removed after the join operation.
To end with
Bottom line is that Free File Splitter might not come with a great variety of split options or preset size values, but it doesn’t take a lot of time to figure out what value needs to be used to perform a perfect split. An automated join function is also deployed, making it worth your while overall.
