Free MP4 to MP3 Converter is an application with a pretty self-explanatory name - it allows you to extract the audio steam from MP4 files and save it to MP3. But it can also encode M4A to MP3.
The interface of the program is based on a standard window where you can import media files by using either the file browser or "drag and drop" method. It is possible to process multiple items in batch mode.
In the file queue you can check out the name, format and location of each entry. Since you cannot change the default settings, all you have to do is specify the output directory (same as the root folder or custom). During the conversion procedure, you can check out a progress bar on the current and all items.
The audio extraction program runs on a low amount of CPU and system memory, in order to finish a task briefly. It has a good response time and delivers audio tracks with a good sound quality. No error dialogs have been displayed throughout our testing and Free MP4 to MP3 Converter did not freeze or crash.
On the downside, you cannot configure audio settings when it comes to the bit rate, sample rate, channel mode and volume level. Plus, you cannot preview tracks in a built-in audio player, specify the thread priority or set Free MP4 to MP3 Converter to turn off the computer automatically or to open the output directory after encoding. The tool has never received updates.
