FreeDuplicateRemover Description
If you notice a drop in the computer's performance, it might have to do with residue files left over from uninstalling applications. Various tools can be used to clean your computer for a little boost in efficiency. FreeDuplicateRemover is a program with a pretty self-explanatory name - it allows you to locate and remove duplicate files from your computer.
Choose what file types to look for
This type of application is recommended if you want to free up space on your hard drive. The interface of the program is based on a standard window in which you can select which types of files you want to check for duplicates, such as AVI, BAT, BMP, DAT, DOC, DLL, FLV, EXE, DOC, WMV, WMA and ZIP.
Once you click the 'Start' button, FeeDuplicateRemover automatically performs a scan job on your computer. Unfortunately, you cannot cancel the task.
Carefully select files for removal
During this time you can check out the total number of found files, along with the source path of each item. When the scanning procedure is done, you can click which items you want to be removed. Be careful because selecting the respective entry is enough for automatic deletion.
Not putting pressure on your system
The straightforward program requires a moderate amount of CPU and system memory, has a good response time and can take a while to complete a task, depending on the size of your hard drive. Plus, you can check out some tips in the 'Instructions' menu.
Good but far from being a pro
On the dowside, FreeDuplicateRemover comes with limited options. For example, you cannot look for a specific file or by inputting some filters (e.g. date of last access, size). It is not possible to select the directory for scanning and the app cannot look into removable drives. Also, the interface is outdated.
In conclusion
All in all, FreeDuplicateRemover might not be amongst the best at getting rid of duplicate files on your computer, providing little features to work with, but can offer at least a little help. You get easily acquainted with the simple interface and not a lot of resources are used.
