GPS Track Editor Description
Handling data acquired with a GPS device is a job that requires specialized utilities which are able to interpret the information and make it readable for everyone. GPS Track Editor is one such application and it is made to work with files containing tracks recorded with a compatible receiver.
Well organized interface for complex tasks
The first impression on the front-end provided by this program is that there is hardly enough space to accommodate the abundance of details stored in a track file. It is best run maximized, and, fortunately, most of the columns, rows and panes stacked together in the main window can be resized manually.
There are numerous viewing options, so it's worth taking the time to adjust everything to your liking in the first place, so that the navigation and the data processing are more convenient later on.
Modify track files and extract data with ease
When it comes to the supported input types, GPS Track Editor is able to handle common formats like GPX XML, Magellan SD (TRK, LOG) and NMEA (NMEA, NMA, RMC, LOG, TXT, CDB, MTE) filetypes.
Once the tracks are identified inside one such file, the route is highlighted on the map displayed inside the main window. The detailed information regarding the points and their properties is neatly structured and can be viewed in the corresponding modules of GPS Track Editor.
You can apply a series of filters to remove unnecessary points and the procedure is reversible, so in case you make a wrong selection you have the possibility of restoring the original points. The application is also capable of exporting the edited files and save them as either NMEA or CSV files.
A useful editor for GPS tracks
To conclude, the software seems to be quite well prepared for taking care of a rather complex task, but it is definitely not a toy for everyone and novices could have a hard time getting along with it.
