Software-based iSCSI Boot enables IBM servers with no local disk to boot over the network using only typical network connections; no hardware off-load device is required. Rather than deploy an operating system on a single-spindle local disk, the operating system can now reside on a storage appliance or other suitable device. Software-based iSCSI Boot enables exciting new standardized capabilities once reserved for only extremely high end specialized hardware.
