id3wipe

id3wipe is a small-sized and portable piece of kit designed to stream audio tracks of tags, such as ID3v1 and ID3v2. It offers support for batch mode and carries out tasks rapidly. No complex features are implemented, making id3wipe ideal for casual and power users alike.

Portability perks

As there is no installation involved, you can drop the executable file in any part of the hard disk and just click it to run. These is also the possibility to save id3wipe to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any machine effortlessly and without previous installers. An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry and Start menu are not getting updated with new entries.

Straightforward interface and options

id3wipe is wrapped in a user-friendly interface, represented by a normal window with an intuitive structure, where you can add files by using the file browser, or by dropping items (including entire directories) while navigating Windows Explorer.
The file list shows the full path of each track prone to tag stripping. Apart from the fact that you can clear the entire list or remove selected items via the context menu, you can start the entire procedure with the click of a button.
Results show the full path of each stripped file, along with the tag version and status (success or failure). This list can be exported to file to study it closer. Other than that, there are no other noteworthy features available.

Evaluation and conclusion

The app has minimal impact on PC performance, since it runs on low CPU and RAM. No error dialogs were shown in our testing, and it did not hang or crash. Although it does not come packed with numerous features, id3wipe gets the job done fast and with minimal user intervention.
