IRPal Description

Science with all its branches is the cause for what makes the world go round and us along with it. In order to better understand certain circumstances, tests and analysis needs to be done. When it comes to chemistry, structures can be identified with a method called infrared spectroscopy. This is where IRPal comes in handy and provides several tools for easier organic compound identification.

Targeting advanced users

The application's main window is pretty compact and structured in three main areas. Along with the tools found in the upper toolbar, you can quickly look and study structures of interest. A solid database is included so you don't need to spend time with heavy documentation.
However, a high degree of knowledge is still required, because the application only points you closer and closer towards what you're looking for. By analyzing a graph along with wavelength values you provide, you need to further sort out elements until the proper ones remain.

Identification through sorting

This is easily done by ruling out classes and by default, all of them are displayed. Amongst other, sorting options range from carboxylic acids and alkenes to aromatics and alcohols. You choose all elements to be displayed in the graph, so any misinterpretation might be your own fault.
A bottom annotation field cleverly points out possible relations between selected structures and elements with similar wavelengths. All your data can be logged, modified, and even saved to a text file in case further processing is required.

To sum it up

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that IRPal is a specialized tool that can come in handy for figuring out a certain structure based on spectroscopy analysis. It's not for everyone, as it might get you confused regarding its purpose, but there's always a rich help manual to get you out of sticky situations.
