JDeskAlarm Description

Alarms get you out of various sticky situations in which you forget about important events or tasks, or simple things like getting out of bed in the morning. These come in various types, and are especially abundant as computer applications. For instance, JDeskAlarm is a lightweight tool which can play your favorite song as an alarm.

Perks of a portable app

A cool thing about it is the lack of a setup process. This enables you to have it around on a USB flash drive at all times to be your personal alarm clock, without affecting the stability of the target PC, leaving no traces in registry entries. Just make sure that the computer you use it on is fitted with Java Runtime Environment.
The alarm is configured via a 24 hour clock. A couple of drop-down menus are at your disposal to pick the exact hour and minute. The alarm doesn’t become active until you hit the corresponding button, and remains active until you manually deactivate it. It can be left minimized during runtime.

Good, but far from being a pro

Apart from the target time, you also need to configure a couple more things. In other words, you need to define the alert type, which is under the form of an MP3 file. Apart from the audio file, you must select an audio player, because the application can’t deliver feedback directly, and places Windows Media Player as the default option.
Sadly, the application can’t be minimized to the tray area, even though there’s an associated icon created. In case you need to quickly launch the program regardless of Explorer location, it’s possible to assign a hotkey command to its shortcut from the properties panel.

A few last words

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that JDeskAlarm is a straightforward tool which uses your favorite song to alert you of events. Sadly, there’s no option to set a message to be displayed, or set multiple alarms.
